MY THOUGHTS

We want to achieve something substantial in our careers and want to give time and support to our family. But, sometimes, these two crucial parts of our life come at loggerheads with each other. Then starts the real drama!!

Everything comes crashing down so does our motivation to continue.

To begin with, Happiness or Being optimistic throughout our life isn’t a default mode, nor does low mood. We constantly move between different states of emotional conditions and that’s absolutely perfect.

Many people are scared to talk about their mental health in the fear of being judged by society and they might be missing some of the best coping mechanisms out there.

In her book, “Why has nobody told me this before?”, Dr. Julie Smith addresses some of the important spheres of our lives.

• Grief

• Motivation

• Stress

• Self-doubt

• Emotional pain

And so on.

She focuses on creating a life that aligns with our value system. She talks about setting up small targets and reflect how those are bringing us closer to our values. Further, she talks about how these values change over time and in turn create a new set of targets or goals to achieve.

What matters most here is how we adjust and balance ourselves in creating a “meaningful life”.

Often, we seek others' validation and forget how we are putting our well-being in the line of criticism and judgment. She explains, in one of her chapters how negative emotions toward others actually work and from where it stems. She has put forward ways how to filter out information from the environment so that we don’t crush our self-esteem.

Her book has provided various tools to introspect and identify emotions. These tools, if practiced will help in getting clarity.

I find this book very different in the sense that self-help books are. It just not provides on developing a positive mindset but also acts as a guidebook to navigate in our day-to-day life.
